Greetings,

I need to replace my battery for my 2004 530i. The dealer wants way too much as this will be my third battery in 7 years, I learned the hard way in having them replace, out of warranty, the last one. What is a good aftermarket battery, and specs on it that I have to look for? Does anyone know how much time I have before it has to be coded/registered? What the average cost is other than the $470-$525 the dealer charges? I'm looking to do this myself. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

don't need to register it...just swap with a equivalent model battery and move on. Lots of threads on this battery replacement issue in this forum and various other ones. If you're in NY, Motorcepts had a great deal on battery and registration awhile back. I think you can also find a reputable indy shop that will register the battery for you too.

I got my from Pep Boys about 6 month ago.. go search it on their site by vehicle
Paid ~ $100 with free installation.
Took them less than 30 minutes. They installed a backup during swap so all settings were preserved
No registering .... nothing .
Works like a champ

I changed my healthy 7years OEM batt for seatbelt/airbag fault reasons with aftermarket one. Asked specialist to register it ??????
Then asked dealer to do so and answer was , only OEM can be registered. When changing, make sure igition has been off for few minuts, windows are all in UP position. All you have to do in resetting the time and date after fitting and connecting the new battry. And good Luck.
