Hello all,

Recently the navigation decides to turn on and off, can this have something to do with the battery? I use the car 3/4 times a week and on very short trips, its a 2006 525D M-Sport. two weeks ago I got a message on the idrive saying something about low battery.

Also can my local mechanic change the battery? if so what battery's are recomended for a 2006 525D M-Sport, I live in the UK.

Many thanks in advance,
-Cream Sauce

Your situation calls for a battery tender, since the car will not have the opportunity to fully charge its battery in between starts. A battery tender is also a good idea during cold winter months.

hmm, sounds like a battery charger.

do you not think that a new battery is a better idea? as to be honest I would rather buy a new battery than charge it.

Because your driving habits may not keep your battery in a fully charged condition the advice was that you use a "battery tender" ... that is a device that helps maintain your battery at a full charge. Search the forum for battery issues to learn more.

Sure, you could just go with a new battery every time the charge runs low. Make an appointment, install the correct type of battery, register the battery (allows vehicle to learn the electrical characteristics of battery), and drive off. I understand that not every vehicle is parked conveniently close to an electrical outlet or in a garage.

Many thanks for the replys and suggestions.

I will in the end go with a new battery, is the battery easy enough for my mechanic to install or does it have to be installed by a bmw dealer?
