obviously battery draw is a problem, but:

if the car is not driven for long enough distances for the battery to re-charge itself between ignitions - that could also shorten the life of the battery - the plates are damaged by a chemical reaction (can't remember the name of the chemical process - my science has never been that good)

this is exacerbated by low ambient temperatures - ie winter

a solution is to drive the car longer distances - sometimes not possible
so there are chargers available - to hook to a regular AC in the garage when the car is left overnight with the engine switched off.

Feed your computer seven double bourbons before bed, and I guarantee it won't wake up in the middle of the night.

Heck, Carrol, that's only 14 regular ones.

Or, maybe that's my lawyer mind rationalizing again.

[quote name='kscarrol' date='Feb 18 2005, 10:54 AM']I think the earlier posts were someone leaving the key in overnight while the car was parked in their garage.

I leave my key in the ignition all the time in my garage and I never have a battery problem except for the software bug mentioned above...

Umm... Where was it that you leave your car again Rudy??

I have a 3 month old 525i with about 3500 miles on it.? About a month ago, it started to develop a problem where the battery drained overnight.? A few weeks ago, I brought it in for service.? They tested the car out, could find nothing obvious wrong with it and gave me a new battery on the theory that the battery may have been defective and developed a memory problem where it did not fully charge.

Now, three weeks later, the same problem recurs.? I called my service center and he thinks the problem may be with the computer waking up overnight.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?? If so, what was the resolution?

Most likely due to the alternator. If it is not charging enough to the battery, this might happen. Alternatevly, if you did install any ICE in the car, there could be a current leak in the amp, speakers and all other components. You might want to bring it to the ICE man to check.

I typically drive 40 miles per day to and from work.

Hi,

the problem perfectly fits a letter from BMW we all (at least many, me too) here got because of a software bug (battery drain, etc.).

Get an update. It shall fix it.

Now it's 15.X (2?)
