Awesome find...works GREAT!!! Everything I was missing (bass) is now there.

After unscrewing the aux face plate I was able to pull out enough slack out of the aux wiring...That I did'nt need to take apart the glove compartment. I pulled out the wiring...the caps/resistors are about 3 inches from the end of the cable. Spliced them out and it works perfectly. I highly recommend this mod. Everything took less than 15minutes to complete

Should we make this as Sticky? I vote "Yes"

Caps and resistor are there serve as high pass filter which pass frequency higher than the one specified.
Take a look at the circuit below and you see what I mean. The reasons they are there are to reduce gain coming from headphone jeck instead of line-out, and filter out low frequency. The second reason is the side effect of the first one.
We should suggest to BMW that they now upgrade their AUX kit to include a Low/High pass filter toggle switch similar to ones found on many older amplifiers. That way people don't go out cutting their cables to bits.

This will make this AUX cable cost $200
To be honest, we can make this cable for less than $15 with BMW connect pin.

I'm going to try this at lunchtime and if it works (and I don;t break my car) then it should be VERY sticky.

The first time it you'd take you 2 hours, but the second time, it might take you only 20-30 minutes.

To avoid clipping, set your MP3 equalizer to flat if you connect to your MP3/iPod/DVD player headphone jack.

I'm glad that people are happy with the outcome. Let me know if you guy have any question.

Just done this in my lunch hour - took me about 25 mins

When it came to cutting the wires I was somewhat nervous, but it works a bloomin treat.

530i and Potato Addict - you are lovely people

Chaps like you MAKE this forum a simply STUNNING resource.

One question - I'm using a proper line out - sound is OK with the EQ off, but is FANTASTIC with it on 'bass booster' (my IPOD usual setting) do you see a problem in running it this way?

I've only used in briefly, but there is no evidence of distortion etc, so it seems unlikely that I am overloading the system.

Thanks again - you guys are heroes

Too much bass boot on your iPod might cause clipping on some instance. Use flat is the best for be so far, and I just crank up the volume.
