Works fine for me on Windows XP pro, but I tried the instructions above and can't seem to get it to work in the car.

I just tried it.

Push the mileage button and simultaneously insert key and move to Pos 1. (Not further). Then cycle through the information. One of the items was SW but I did not recognise the number. Maybe have to search through post by Urbo to see how it translates to CIP version. Cycle till you see KI test then push again. The show begins.

Tried again--no show. I see various info on the cluster display, and each push of the trip odometer button cycles to another item. At the top is says 01.00 then 01.01 then 01.02, etc. through 01.08, and then starts at the beginning again. Item 01.04 is:
KI HSTLDATUM
28.10.2004

My car's production date was November 10, 2004, so perhaps the production start date was October 28? I have a US 545i with nav & other options as listed in my signature below.

Stream, try again. It worked for after the KI test which showed up the second time around

This is cool.. Took me a few of tries but it worked.

Now i can take a picture and have proof of my car going 160mph.
