Mine is finally fixed after 8 months of suffering and 2 months in the shop. Mine was also the Mechtronics module/valve body on the transmission. Here is the part number for the rest of you to demand it get replaced 24-34-7-571-233 (RMFD Mechatronics). It has been bothering me for a while reading these posts and most of the cars are diesels that have this issue but mine and one other was not. All the fixes / excuses offered to you were diesel engine specific and it had to be something common to our cars.
Good luck to all on this.
Good luck to all on this.

This is to everyone out there with gear problems and you Smarty:
I recently bought my 545i and noticed that in certain gears the car would "jerk" like all of you; since I am still under warranty I took it to the dealership. They first reset the tranny, it did not work. My boyfriend and I test drove the car with the technician and the shop foreman and duplicated the jerking motion in different drive modes (D, DS & M). We left the car there, got a loaner and told them to call only when the car was fixed! Well, it is fixed and it drives like a dream! THEY REPLACED THE MECHATRONICS MODULE, the invoice reads: "it had faulty shorts for EGS, after replacement of mechatronics I programmed and encoded complete vehicle including CAS. I cleared all adaptations in vehicle and re-teached adaptation values." In other words, they replaced the transmission module.
I just thought that all of you should know what to look for since I was afraid that I had a lemon in my hands...
Good luck

I have a question - how did they know it was the mechatronics module?
Could they specifically test for that and if so how? I'd love to be able to tell my dealer to test it.

So glad I found this thread,
My car started doing this about 6 months ago. Started off with the rev counter needle bouncing about 100rpm and slight miss fire feel.
Over time it has gotten worse to the point it's driving me nuts. Now it does it fairly often and I also sometimes get the feeling of 'driving through treacle!' like the car is holding back.
I took it to the local specialist but they found no errors etc, I explained it as a cross between a missfire and the gearbox thinking about changing gear yet only on very light throttle and if you increase the throttle the car is fine!. I would like to sell the car but I can't at the moment as I want to sort this issue first. I take it the mechatronics module is not an easy thing to change? Nor cheap?!.
Strange thing is, in my hunt to sort this I have cleaned the egr valve out and it sorted the problem for exactly 1 week then it started hessitating again.
My friend looked over the car looking for a boost leak etc and noticed I still had the old loo roll type breather, so we changed it for the vortex version and same again, the car drove perfect for exactly 1 week then returned to hessitating.
Prior to the fault many months ago I had an oil service, new air filter and fuel filter, the swirl flaps have been removed and the car is re mapped.
My friend also thinks a low gearbox oil level can cause similar problems? But at about £500 to change inc sump it's not a cheap fix which may not work, also less than ideal just before I want to sell the car.
Anyone else had fixes for this?.
