My Ride: MY05 545i Jet Black with Auburn interior. SMG, Logic7, Sport Package, Comfort Seats, Navigation.
I have poplar with Auburn too. I love it. I would definitely have chosen the anthracite headliner if availabe, but it wasn't.

Jet, could you PM or post more pictures? Yours is the one I think is the 'safe' choice, and the auburn might have enough of the warmth needed in that interior so that I can use the dark wood.
[/quote]I'd like to see more too online. The ones you posted are so dark that I can't assess the combo. But, don't go to any trouble if you don't have any that show the combo better.

Well, I had Anthracite with my Auburn interior initially because BMW NA would not let me take it with anything other than Poplar or Anthracite (and I don't like the Poplar at all.....It looks too old fashioned to me). I chose the Anthracite and I think it looked great with Auburn. However, I love brushed and/or matte aluminum so I bought the ALU Shadow trim and have replaced the dash and center console trim with it so far(although I have not had time to install the door handles yet....I will soon). I love the way ALU Shadow looks for two reasons:
1. It breaks up the all-black dash and adds some nice contrast.
2. I think Auburn looks better with it.
Both of the above reasons would also apply to any of the other Aluminum (or even Titan) trims that BMW has. Although the "Titan" trim as opposed to the others is not real aluminum, it's just painted plastic.
So in summary IMO don't go with Poplar. Either Alu Shadow (or any silverish trim) or the Anthracite trim go better with Auburn. However, the Alu's add a more modern look and break up the all black dash, which I think is nice.
I would post pictures when I get a chance, but it may not be until the weekend.

Well, not in my opinion. Interesting to see how different lighting (natural vs flash) affects the Auburn. I debated getting Anthratcite with Auburn, but finally decided that the best option was Poplar. I think it the 2 contrast well and look great. You be the judge:
Which of the photos is the most accurate? Those in the Information section of the website are all contrasting for the most part.

Bottom is probably more accurate. By contrasting, I mean that the difference complements each shade of brown. IMO the Anthracite clashes more with the Auburn than complements the other black surfaces in the cabin

I thought you could not get the alumnium trim on a 550? (here in the states that is)
nor in europe; i ordered mine with the brushed M5 alu though, but it will set you (and me) back a couple of $$
it will have to be fitted at your local dealers, and, on top of that, you will have to replace the vertical dash-panel that holds the climate-controlls with the leather M5 panel, because this is not available in alu. also you will have to replace the ventpanel in the rearcompartment. estimate of $ 1500 + labour if you have to retrofit it on an existing car, if your dealer likes you and trades in the wooden panels (if it's a new car) it will still cost you $ 400 + labour
I was looking through my pictures and unfortunately most of them don't look that good, but I thought I would post them here anyways. These are only the Auburn/Anthracite ones (before I changed the trim to ALU Shadow). I still have not changed the door handles to ALU Shadow, but once I do I will take more pictures and post them. If I get a chance to clean the car's interior this weekend I may just take some pictures of the dash and console (which are now ALU Shadow) and post them until I get a chance to change the door handles too. Here are the pics:
