I forgot to mention earlier, I took my X5 to Discount Tire Center as it was the closest to my house....they fixed the tire, but would NOT charge me for it!! (I paid the guy who did the work, just not through the store) My suspicion is they do not want to be LIABLE should it fail sometime down the line!

Thanks gents.
I decided to just buy a set of 19 inch Sumitomo HTR Z III to put on my 172s which have been waiting to be put on. Wanted to hold of on spending about $1K on tires + installation but figured I'd just go ahead and do it.

General Exclaims or Hankook Ventus would run you about $700 plus installation.
look at Falkens too

Exactly! AND you'll probably get a better tire with the Ventus

My left rear has a nail in it (in the tread, not on the side). I'm waiting for my rims to be refinished so want to be able to drive on this RFT for another week or so before I pull the trigger on new tires.
Thoughts?

In many states, a company does not have to charge you to become liable. The fact that a company or person works on your item or car means that they implicitly say that they know what they are doing. Some states have killed the liability by creating a "good samaritan law."

They are still liable. Disc Tire is a very customer oriented organization. They are honest, and people know it. Personally, I have purchased over 50 tires from them in past few years--for family and friends cars. I used to be a big Sam's Club fan, but Disc Tire converted me. I get tons of free rotations and balances, and they get tons of free ice cream, cokes, tacos, etc.
