stopped by the BMW dealer yesterday to look at the 530xi, and the car that caught my eye was the new 3 series.? Very nice car.? I actually prefer the styling, both inside and out, of the 3 more than the 5.? Feel like the 3 pushed the styling to the limits without crossing over, whereas the 5 crossed over the line in some respects...
just my 2 cents.? picked up both the 3 and 5 brochures, and keep on looking at the 3 brochure.? Sparkling Graphite is a great color, also...too bad no go on a 5.

I like the looks of the new 3, for the most part....
It's just the quality I don't like. It's nothing even remotely close to a 5 series.
I drove a 325i with Steptronic. And it almost got me killed. The car has ZERO acceleration. You hit the gas, and the car just stands still. The first gear does abslutely nothing to move the car, and then within 1 second of toucing the gas pedal, the car shifts into second gear.... but the shift takes longer than my 545 SMG.
Admittedly, once you get the car moving over 30 mph, the acceleration beyond that point is fine....
But I tried to make a reasonable left turn ahead of traffic, and damn near got killed because the stupid steptronic and worthless 6 cyl engine.
I also tried using the manual mode, but this was not much improvement..... because the first gear just does nothing to get the car moving. It's a damn joke.

Well.... yes the automotive press loves the 3er and still take shots at Bangle , flame surfacing, and I-drive. None of this is new and is quite predictable from the automotive press. Writer loves the car over the 5er yet doesn't fail to refer to it as an "automotive cliche" and an appearance whose "sculpting will race no pulse".
As I said above, the car was built for the masses (e.g. safe) and does not have the presence of a 5er. I realize that this is all subjective, but the e60 beats the e90 is most dimensions in my book hands down.

But why does it have less acceleration than a 4 cylinder Honda?
I'm not even joking.... that 325 I drove took forever to start moving.
