AutomotiveTouchup.com They carry the Black Sapphire Metallic paint and the clear coat I need to repair some scrapes to my fender and bumper. I'm going to attempt to fix this myself. They're got some online videos that make it appear easy.

It might be worth a try if the price is right. But sometimes bodyshops don't get it right so I'm not sure how well this will work. Maybe you can practice on a piece of scrap metal first.

The touch up materials seems to be ok, but I would not use the spray materials. If your car is damaged in such a way that is large and requires spraying, just have someone do it correctly. The clear on our cars is a 2k activated solvent base where as the sprayable clear from this site can only be a straight laquer without a hardener. If your lucky and it looks ok, my guess it last no more than a six months and then you have the mess to remove it and start over.

I guess this is more complicated than I thought. Can you explain why urethane is better than lacquer?

What he said. Stop being cheap like me and take it to a body shop to get it done right.

You're right. Their clear is lacquer, not urethane. I wrote them back with what you stated, and they said they also sell a 2K urethane clear in an aerosol can for $18.85, However, once activated, you only have about 24 hours before it will harden in the can.
