My Ride: 2007 550I Sport Package
Smile

Picked up a 07 550i sport package with 142000 miles about 2 months ago for a hell of a good price in spite of the car smoking and having a bad misfire. Also oil leaking from the alternator bracket gasket.
Dealer gave me a 6 month warranty and replaced the following:
1) valve stem seals
2) valve cover gaskets
3) timing chain cover gasket
4) alternator gasket
5) a bad coil
6) oil change

I took it to a trusted indy and they found these things that still needs to be done:
1) front upper control arms
2) oil filter gasket leaking
3) air pump oil leak
4) coolant expansion tank needs replacing
5) new battery

Car runs very stong and im happy with my purchase but i can tell the suspension needs to be worked on... maybe new shocks on top of the control arms.

I have only found the sets of solenoids in the US for close to $700.

You must have been maintaining those cars pretty well. What model of the E60 do you have?

I have 131k on mine, bought with 40k 8 years ago. I don't drive it as much anymore since I work from home and mainly drive the Lexus. Honestly I've almost got rid of my car many times but I can never do it, after all the money and maintenance I've spent on it. And the fact I can't get much for it. The car still looks really good. My only issue with it is the lack of power, I wish I had a tunable turbo engine like a 135i. I don't have the space for more than 2 cars and I daily the Lexus so I'll see how much longer I hold on to it for. I change my front lower and upper control arms a few months ago. I have new tie rod ends but my last attempt to loosen bolts was a failure, gotta get some better tools for that job. My suspension is pretty rough sometimes on my car, I may change the coil-overs eventuall, IMO the ksports have always rode pretty rough. I have some strange rattles I've never been able to solve, maybe related to my exhaust I gotta try to tackle that.

I don't have 100 but 70k and bought it as a used car (E60 525d 30k)

Reparis I had to do so far - done by myself (from 30k to 70k):

  • Replaced washer pump
  • Replaced track rod end
  • Renewed all 6 glow plugs
  • The usual maintainance: brakes, tires, oil, filters, ...

Pretty happy so far

But notice minor oil leakage when I renewed the glow plugs
