I just remembered two other subtle things I think is nice

1. Mapping one of the wheelbuttons to Change of entertainment source is a obvious choice to me AND the other is nice to use for phone list to go to phone rather than the left phone that I?ve only been able to use for answering/ending a call or repeat last call.

Exactly right. One thing to add to that, I often change the programming of one of the buttons depending on my current situation. If I'm on a highway trip at night, for example, I'll program the diamond button to turn off the LCD screen. I can pop it on and back off as needed so it doesn't affect my vision to the exterior. (Yes, I'm already dimming the dash lights all the way down.)

Here's a good one, forgot where I picked it up. To get the Radio/Nav diagnostics screen do the following:

From top level iDrive menu:

1. Press the iDrive controller and hold for at least 6 seconds. (If the i menu comes up when you release, you haven't held it long enough.)
2. Turn the controller 3 steps to the right, followed by 3 steps to the left.
3. Turn the contoller 1 step to the right, followed by 1 to the left, followed by another 1 to the right.
4. Now press the controller.

You should then see a diagnostics menu come up with about six or seven top level choices. The first sets a series of radio diagnostics. The last gives radio frequency, signal strength, and quality readings. There is also one that shows all version info
for the software.

Have fun!

It does not work on mine, If I hold Controler down it goes to IMenu even before I let go. Does it supposed to be done at sertain time, engine on or off?
