So I recently noticed that when turning the car on there is a ticking/tapping noise. The noise can't be heard from the engine bay since the car is loud on start up, instead it can be heard from underneath the car. Another problem that started occurring is my car is eating oil. The sensor says low oil level every 2-3 weeks. I thought it might be a bad oil sensor but I check the dipstick and the oil level is low so it's not the sensor. I wanted to get your opinions on this before I blow money at the stealer or my indy. Any help would be appreciated.

No oil leaks?
Might want to check CCVs, as it's fast&easy. https://5series.net/forums/topic/853...ssion-no-more/
Don't know about ticking noise, maybe it's the lifters, same issue as some N52s.

I do not loose oil regularly. Only time I had low oil was when my valve cover gaskets were shot...I dont know anyone who has to top off every 2-3 wks. I would say that is not normal, under normal driving conditions of course.
Can you see any oil residue on the ground after it is parked? What if you check under the bottom guard and see if oil is collecting.

I have had a very noticable ticking noise since I have gotten my 545... It only had 68k on it when I got it. Ticking ranges from loud as hell when warming up sometimes, to can barely hear it at all.... I also lose about a quart of oil every 3 weeks or so. Havn't had a load of extra cash laying around to go have it checked out yet. It really sounds like a lifter noise to me....but from what I have read it could be from the intermediate levers. Going to have it checked out by an independent bmw shop in the next month hopefully.. Car runs great otherwise! Best car I have ever had, I just love that I was able(and that they make) a 6-speed manual.

Don't know about the ticking, but I'd guess at lifters before blaming low octane gas. However, it's easy enough to try a different gas station and see if it changes.

Hey guys sorry for not answering for a while I've been trying to find the problem. I fixed my check engine light by changing the thermostat and got an oil change but the noise is still there. There is no oil on the ground after being parked so it seems to be using the oil while driving. Like I said before the noise is loudest under the car which is confusing me the most. Any help would be much appreciated I'm low on money so I can't take it to BMW
