I'm interested to try this Seafoam, but I have no idea where to purchase it in Canada. Also, we only get maximum of 91 octane gas here. Sucks!

Nick, if you do either, please let me know. Maybe we can try this treatment together?

Had the same issue but engine light did not come on. Dealer recommended a De-Carb.

The De-carb did not solve the problem

Dealer did not solve the real problem until engine light came on.
This is what they did:
1- Found additive adaptations out of spec. Checked for external vacuum leaks, none detected.
2- Removed engine covers and examine crankcase vent valves. Found valves torn/leaking causing an internal vacuum leak.
3- Replaced both crankcase vent valves.
4- Test drove vehicle, rechecked fuel adaptations. Adaptations now within spec.

This solved the problem.

I have been dealing with this and went to 2 dealers with the STB in hand. They said everything was normal.
Starting the car in the morning after a long drive from NYC the engine light came on emission malfunction and very rough shakes. drove it like that for 10 min and then when i restarted the car the shakes and check engine were gone but not the RPM jumps. i have joined a clip with RPM jumps to see what you guys think. Also i got left high beam malfunction during the drive back. When i cheked it was the left daytime running light that was off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFHJhDX8WuE. the jump is around the 1 min mark.

Here's the thread on seafoam. Techron is just a fuel additive, where as seafoam is pure petroleum and can be used in all moving systems of the car, including the oil system:

https://5series.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=73688

I've used both a few times each, and I noticed the Seafoam gave me better results in my 545i.

It's disheartening to know that they won't even take a good look until the check engine light comes on. I'm afraid mechanical skills are going the way of the dodo.
