I think he is those that like beer, you know the raw and unrefine taste which is perfect if I just want to get drunk and I am really thirsty.

Now that's funny!

As for the original post; I can see where he's coming from. The guy drove a loaner. My dealer has a 530d as a loaner, in a bad colour, with a bad colour interior and no options.. It's a pretty depressing machine, nothing like my beloved E60...

I have both cars (an '02 3 series and an '04 E60). They're very different. For quick response and sporty feel with excellent handling, I'll take the 3. For long drives, with comfort and excellent handling, I'll take the 5. Interestingly, I was loaned a 7 a few months ago and didn't like all the gadgets and silly controls. Tech for it's own sake, IMHO. But each to his own. Have to admit I like the design of the new 3. Attractive like the 6, not as jarring as the 5.
A comment on the earlier post on Gen X/Y/Z's liking the Idrive while boomer's wouldn't. I've worked with computers my entire life (I'm 53) and don't much like Idrive. This isn't because it's complex (it isn't) but because I can't customize it to do what I want quickly and easily. If I could get it to come up with my radio screen upon startup, with no intermediate screens, I'd be fine with it. Then I could use it's other features as needed. And the Idrive climate control function seems essentially useless compared to the straightforward controls on the 3 series -- almost as if they had to leave a few climate items on the Idrive when they put the major items on the dash.
But...this isn't about bashing Idrive. I does some things well and others not well. Just comparing the control systems between the two cars.
Has anyone used the non-Idrive control system on the new 3, where a number of the useful tricks of the Idrive are embedded in the radio system, but the rest of the control system is right there in front of you where you need it? Since I don't use nav, I'm pretty attracted to the non-Idrive on the new 3.
Cheers--

I have both, 03 e46 and a 05 e60. The 3 has that sporty feel, quick and responsive, but my 5 is something else. When I hit the expressway and have that bad boy up around 70-80, theres nothing like it, smooth, quiet, almost like its driving itself.
I derive pleasure from driving both of my bimmers, hands down. To me, it is "The Ultimate Driving Machine" Oh and by the way, my wifes drive both of them also, and concurs with me.
