I think his comments were that of a staunch 3 series owner who even if they liked the 5 couldn't bring themselves to admit it.

The problem with some people is that they associate simple layouts with a perceived cheap quality.
No doubt, despite what some folks say......the E60 does NOT have a cheap interior by any means.
Now, if you disagree with the layout/controls/technology fine.

Looks are obviously a matter of personnal taste...I love the design myself except the 45 degree view from the back
..these tail lights still look arkward after 2 years lol..but from the back , front or side, interior..simply beautiful, a work of art, and I received tons of positive comments (and envious stares) on the design.
As for I-drive I simply cant understand why there's so much negative comments about it...because a couple of car magazines had negative reviews in the beginning, it s like an urban legend now! After a couple of days i could go in there with my eyes closed on the most important and frequent operations...the rest is very intuitive...I 'm amazed! I wonder how those people can be efficient ( or functionnal)nowadays...with all the technology out there...I'm surprised he was able to post !
Oh yeah....I wanted to add...I just love to drive that car!

I had an E46 330d sport for the day yesterday while my car was in for some work. It's quite a crude car when compared with any E60, heavy steering very noisy and cheap looking inside.I sold my first E60 a 530d last Nov to go back to an E46, I bought a 330d Coupe. Was one of the most stupid things I have done, got rid of it after only 8 months and lost ?10000 in the process. Very happy now with my 535D Sport though.

My first car was a nice e46 325ci when it first came out. I had the 1st gen OEM aero kit and hamann HM2 rims and race springs on it. It was a manual and it was a lot of fun to drive.
Then, I got an e66 745Li with the 19" rims. That was a awesome luxo-cruiser. Felt like I was in a tank, and the comfort seats and amenities were sublime.
Now, I have an e60 545i, and it is the best of both worlds. The 7 didn't have a manual tranny and was too big to feel sporty. The e46 was too small and lacked the power of a V8. My 545i has both. Space and sport performance. And among all three cars, I like the way my 545i looks the best, even with the hooked-up e46 considered. My white 545i Sport looks awesome bone stock. That's just my opinion.
BTW- I had sum phun on the highway with an e46 M3 last night. Hehe, let's just say that the driver on the M3 obviously needs to learn how to drive better.

I have had 2 e46 loaners. Certainly not optioned out
My conclusion after driving them was that I would never put up with BMWs crap just to drive a 325. It handled OK but not like an e60 Sport. It was pretty slow with an automatic. If I was in the market for a mid 30s car - I'd get an Acura or Infiniti. Now hopefully the e90 is another story....

To get an honest opinion of the appearance you need someone withno expectations. Therefore I took my wife whem ny search started. We looked at 05 3 series, 06 3 series, 02 5 series, and 04 5 series - just to compare the outside. I was partial to the 3 series, but my wife - who knows nothing about cars - and could not tell you a lexus was Japanes or even where a Saab was from - looked at all 4 and picked the 04 5 series - she said it had the most presence and the old 5 series looked "dated" - Harsh words for a beautiful car, but, oh well I am married to her...
Anyway - ordered an 06 530xi - but the point is the new 5 series to the person without expectations is a great looking car.
