I am mildly irritated by my non perspective and slower Idrive plus the sometimes dodgy auto shifts but if it means waiting for a month or two so i dont have loss of lights and also get mp3 playback i recon ill do that.

I wonder why its so intermittent (i.e. some lose and some dont). it seems very bizarre. Maybe someone should create a spreadsheet of the cars and locations and what software the CIP was upgraded.

Maybe thatll help solve why.

Had my car in with my dealer for the last two days. They were convinced they could get the amber LEDS working. I think they thought it was a fuse change despite me advising them it ws something to do with my software upgrade after reading all the posts on this forum.

One day in no joy. Got a phone call today (2nd day) to say that things were working. Then a call shortly afterwards to say that actually not working. Now advised that I will need to wait till then enxt software upgrade.

COMPLETLY UNACCEPTABLE ON BEHALF OF BMW! NEXT TIME IT COULD BE SOMETHING MORE CRITICAL THAN AMBER LEDs. "Sorry your engine has stopped working but we will fix when CIP 45.65 is available in two years time".............

Our car is in for service the 26th of june (monday), and I've told my "service advisor" that I would like a software update because of some problems with my Idrive..

So do you guys tell me, if I'm upgrading to CIP 17,1, I will lose the orange LEDs ??

I would say that being in Europe turns the odds against your LED's.

AFAIK the vast majority of LED friendly upgrades were in the US.

I've always regretted the limitations our US mates had when specifying their cars, but now it seems things are better over there: they have MP3 available and some of them are immune to the dead LED virus.

They gave me 16.1 when everybody else was getting 17.xx (or at least 16.2 which seems to be the most stable 16.xx instance).

But lets not loose our hope.

It's not a good sign.

I'm an IT Mgr and if one of my key s/w suppliers did the same I would stop buying from them.

I am also an IT Manager. Have you ever heard this from Microsoft for example ?

BTW I also lost TMC (traffic information) which upset me much more than LEDs.

Yep, MS is rolling out new versions in a more civilized manner now. But to be fair, my decision to buy the E61 was much more emotional than rational.

Lets hope the s/w team at BMW gets their act together. The danger is that they start creating more problems with new versions than those they solve.

I saw your other post about TMC. And there's another one reporting lost bluetooth functionality after 17.1.

Not a good track record.

I have 16:2 in mine and evrything works fine. I will not upgrade if i have no problem whith my car

That's very wise. I would not recommend 17.xx at all.
