Angel Eye wiring peeling apart.
Yesterday, one of the Angel Eye bulbe in my car burned out.
Today, I dove into the headlights to change them both out, and I immediately noticed that all the moulded protective plastic around the copper wire has cracking and falling off. I tried to cover it with electical tape, but the more I tried wrapping the wires, the further back the coatign would crack off.
In all my years of working with mobile electronics, I've never seen such a brittle wire coating. HAs anyone else had this issue with the wiring in thier headlights?
I guess it looks like I might have to pull the full headlamp assemblies out and rewire them. WTF!
Is there a better solution?
thanks,
Andrew

There is a thread on here about this. You are not the only one, it seems like this is a flaw that BMW needs to address with a recall. I am going to check mine this weekend since i will be installing white angel eyes.

The German's are really, really, really, big on the eco-friendly theme.
That means they use "recycled" materials all over their cars. The new "S" class is 100% recycled! I wouldn't touch that car after 60k for any amount of money.
Mercedes had a HUGE issue in that they used recycled materials on their wire sheathing throughout the car resulting in the exact same thing you are describing.
Ever notice how the interior materials on a BMW wear, seperate or fall-off prematurely? "Eco-Friendly" is the reason.
I can't help but wonder, if that wiring wasn't in contact with the heatsink of the angel eye causing the premature failure as another possible cause.
But that's being addressed in other topics.

Welcome to the club.
Shocking that this is happening on four and five year old cars. Completely ridiculous. Hella makes BMWs headlight housings for them. Perhaps a supplier change is in order.
