I did not do it via WINKFP, I used Progman as I was somewhat inexperienced with WINKFP, so if you have Progman, its easier that way. It will clear the code then, but not permanently. Also the cable fix, are you sure you had the 93f9 code? because as someone stated there is a whole 'nother code for that cable fix. Our code indicates a faulty module which I refuse to believe as my car has never been in any accidents or had any major faults. i cant believe that a ~1000$ module could just go bad so easily. There must be something else.

Hi,

You are absolutely right 96CA is the code for high resistance, but high resistance on the airbag module build in to the positive battery cable. Something inside the cable or the plug itself is getting lose causing the high resistance condition.
BMW know about this issue and for that reason they redesigned the cable in 2006.

Cable is not that hard to install. The other end connects onthe trunk floor. You will need to remove the trim on right side, floor cover and the rear seat. There is one bolt holding the cable that is covered by the seat (which really sucks).

Hi,

I replaced both parts (61126989780 and 61129193975) about 7 months ago. Since then never had any problems with airbag system or 93F9 error code.

Replace the cables, then clear the errors.

Hi,

I got both codes mixed up – I am sorry for all the confusion!

96CA – is the code for high resistance on battery positive cable (replace both parts 61126989780 and 61129193975)

93F9 – is the code for SGM module –from what I found you have few possible options

1. Battery is old and voltage in the car is going crazy causing this error

2. Firmware on the module needs to be updated

3. module is bad and needs to be replaced
