Airbag SGM fault 93F9 - how to fix it?
1 Attachment(s)
I have this problem with my 2005 545i. Air bag light came on and last year dealer replaced my seat sensor under recall and the light went away but it came back 6 months ago. I took the car back and they said this error is not related to the recall they performed when they replaced the seat mat. The dealer ran a test plan and said that I need a new airbag module, but i dont know if i believe them I tried to clear by INPA but can not clear it. Code reads :
93F9 Spannnung Energiereserve U60 n.i.0 Does this mean my passenger airbag will not deploy? Can you guys help me please? |
hey bud I received your PM.
The error is in SGM/SIM. Are you clearing the IM, EM,and HM? (info mem, error mem, history mem)? Just read the UIF EM and then do a clear and see what happens first. |

Hey I have the same issue man, 93F9.
Only way to clear the code is to update/reflash the SGM module using progman or WINKFP if you are comfortable using it. Only then it will clear itself. But it comes back in a month or so. After searching for weeks, not a lot of info could be found on this issue, I think that the module needs to be replaced or there are some electrical issues that make this happen. (I also changed my battery thinking it was the issue, did not help.) If anyone can chime in on this, would be great! |

Thats what my dealer told me i have to change the SGM module. ~$1500
I ask them if for this price is included also a new softwear version for my car ( i have like v23 or something) And they told me that they will only update the sgm and the car softwear will be extra ~4-500$ I guess i have to suck it up and get over with this f#%^g passanger airbag mulfunction Good luck to all of you with this issue ;) |
Hi,
Don’t waste your time andmoney on the airbag module. I had the same problem with my 545i. I was able tofix it by replacing battery positive cable (SBK). This cable has a module thatreports to airbag system and this cable is known to have issues. I replaced the cable with theupdated version that was installed on 550i. You will need also to modify thesmall harness connecting to the cable You will need followingparts: 61126989780 http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=NB53&mospid=48806&btnr=61_1760& hg=61&fg=10 61129193975 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...61&fg=10&hl=14 GL |

I thought the code 96CA is the code for high resistance which is on the positive cable. |
I have the sane error on my 2005 535d and have been trying to fix for some time now with replacement of the SGM-SIM (Safety & Gateway Module) being a last resort given what a replacement costs. Have replaced and registered a new battery but to no avail.
Going to disconnect the battery and then check all the connectors on the SGM itself to ensure that it isn't a poor connection next, but I am fast coming to the conclusion that a replacement SGM will be the only way to resolve this. So keeping an eye on this thread with some interest. |
