All BMW functions operate as normal as per factory.

Is it just a simple plug & play install? I currently have a 6.5" MASK in my LCI...if I can just swap them out, that would be great!

You need to swap out the screen and connect the new wiring harness. You also need to run the USB and AUX cable to your desired location,

You also need to run the cable for the GPS antenna and also the cable for the reverse camera

Thanks Cryptical and paulsk66, I had not seen Dynavin before so I'll add it to my research as a top contender at this point. My car is a 2009 and comes standard with a 8.8 navi and factory bluetooth as well as USB port. The main problem I have with the standard equipment is that the DVD player does not play DVD movies (I wonder who's idea that was). The DVD is only for the navi and it drives me nuts to have such a large screen + a DVD player and not be able to play movies for the kids as I do in my GMC. The bluetooth also sucks, it only works for phone calls and does not play music wireless so I end up having to connect my phone to the AUX plug but that seems so archaic these days.

It does play dvd movies. It just stops when the car actually is driving. You can have it coded so that it won't disable dvd playback while in drive.

Do they all play DVD movies, or is it an LCI/needs to be coded thing?

I have never tried mine as I have never heard of it being done.

only CIC units are capable of playing DVD discs. You need to enable DVD in motion in order to watch movies while driving. I agree the lack off A2DP streaming seems like a bad approach, but I am not surprised. Germans were never leading in innovative electronic technology. Rear view camera was added to F10 series, not even an option on E60!!! Cars that retail for less than half had that option for years... Oh well at least I have PDC...
I ended up installing bluetooth adapter and when I need to watch a movie while waiting for my wife to finish shopping (I did enable dvd in motion, but I will never use it) I use my tablet. Connect it via bluetooth and sit in the rear. Table fits perfectly on the arm rest between the front chairs.
