Here's what my SA said:
"It would be recommend to check the active steering fault with the diagnostic computer."

It just felt strange as my steering suddenly off-center, turn signals stopped auto canceling etc.
Could also be the SZL (steering angle sensor), but probably not likely.

Hi,

which software versio do you have in your car? I had that issue in my 04 530i and it was fixed in version 21 or something like that. Never came back after upgrade.

Regards,
I have no idea. I'll probably have to check it using the method posted in this forum somewhere.

It costs about 2-3 hrs labour to update software so I can't be bothered trying to update it.

Any more problems after the update? Was that all that was done?

I've had the same problem over the last few days, but get the warning within 2 minutes of backing out of my drive and driving off. I'm due in this coming Wednesday and I'll post what happens, but just seeing if I can be armed with any more info.

As I mentioned above, I was getting the same message (as shown in Post #9). I took the car into the dealer today and they said it just needed the steering fluid topped off. I have not had the message again, but it was so random that it will take a few days to verify that took care of it.

Well, lucky you not needing software upgrade. They actually forgot to reset the Active Steering, as a result my steering wheel was crooked to the left for a few days until I complained.
