Acrytane paint...is it a good choice ?
Hello guys !
I'm about sending my bumper, side skirts, my hood and my fenders to a reaaly good painter that used to paint aircrafts for air canada and did other jobs on a lot of differents things since the past 35 years now. He painted my calipers with the G2 Blue paint and the result is really good !
Anyways, I asked him about the job that I need to do on my car now and he told about the acrythane, he said that it's a really good paint, it is more thicker than water paint, but it's less expensive than water paint and more easy to use.
Now, I just want to know your opinion guys about acrythane paint ? If some of you used it,etc..
Thanks a lot !

I'm pretty sure thus is a single stage paint meaning without a clear coat. It really comes down to personal choice but I would not put this on my car. If you do your only saving grace is that its black and if it doesn't look good in the end it possibly could be buffed. You would need to know if a hardener was used to speed up the process otherwise if done too early could cause serious dulling. I might put this on my 777 or perhaps my husqvarna mower but not my BMW. If this guy knows what he's doing then have him use a two stage quality paint. Don't cheap out on this process as it will only cost you a lot more in the end.

Lol thats not what he said exactly, I don't remember exactly what he said since I talked to him about this a month ago, but he said that he can be use for cars..they use it for boats, aircrafts, etc.
Anyways, I don't think I will go with the acrythane option !
Thanks

Use a good, high quality urethane or water borne paint system. Do not 'mix and match', ie use base coat materials from one manufacturer, reducers from another, and clears from another.
Urethane or water-borne are what you want. Don't use anything but one of those two. I'm guessing he wants to use some sort of acrylic paint system. that's a big no no in my book. you're painting a lot of panels on your car. you cant afford to screw it up. get it done right the first time.
my two cents. good luck with your project.

Just a question, why should I use base coat materials, reducers and clears from all different manufacturer ? What does it changes at the end if they comes from the same manufacturer?

believe it or not guys, i painted my own bumpers (front back side skirts), in my driveway with a 9.99 harbor freight gun, and the paint i used matrix paint, base and clear, the base was actually ready to shoot, the clear of course i had to mix 4:1 paint cost me under 150.
i normally wouldnt paint in these conditions, but i couldnt find my good guns in my storage, no time to rent a paint booth, and bimmer fest was comming up! lol so had 2 days to prep and shoot. i never painted with matrix systems paint but didnt want to spend the money on the dupont if i was going to take the risk of painting it in my driveway with a harbor freight gun...but the match was perfect and i am extremely happy with how it came out that i have no plans to repaint it. im actually going to start using matrix paint from now on.
