I have a weird problem with my AC. (2005 545)
When the temperature is above 80 (26C) and the AC is on for more than 1 or 2 hours (taking a long trip); eventually the airflow from the dash vents starts to diminish. The interior of the car gets hotter; thus, the fan turns faster, but the airflow is still week. Eventually the airflow is almost zero with the sound of the fan going crazy.
I have to stop the car, wait 5 minutes, turn the car back on where the AC (air-flow) returns to normal; which it will stay good for about an hour after which the problem will play out again.
Notes:
When the problem occurs, no changing of the air distibution will fix it. The setting was set to AUTO. The air flow does not come out of the heat or defroster ducts.
The problem seems to be software, where the system is shutting down the vents for whatever reason.
My car was just upgraded to software 17.1 but the problem still occurs.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ron

I don't have this problem with my E60 but had something similar with my previous car (E39 525i). BMW service had changed the temperature sensor in the car. Maybe something to check out.

I have a 2004 545 and had the same AC problem as you have described on a road trip. I took it to the dealer and they said that they have now fixed it. They said that they found a small leak near a valve which has been fixed and the AC charged up back again under warranty. I may suggest that you take it to your dealer and show it to them. I have not gone on another long road trip to verify that the problem has now infact been fixed.

thanks guys for all your help.
but the issue is not warm air blowing;.... the issue is that little (still cold) then hardly no (still cold) air is blowing.
you can here the fan going crazy (turning very hard), but its like the internal air distribution dampers are all closed.
it can't be the coil.
