Whenever I start my car the AC/Heater fan comes on. Is there a way to set it so that it is always is OFF?

With the engine running and with the comfort access key in the ignition I shut off the fan. Then shut off the car figuring the "off" setting would be memorized by the key/OBC. Removed the key and reinserted and started the car- fan comes on. I had a mechanic say that he took the low fan wire off of the switch on his own BMW) but it is against EPA regulations.

I guess I don't understand why people buying $60k luxury cars prefer to deal with stuffy air. Anyone?

I like to turn off the radio and a/c before I turn off the motor, so when I start the car, I'm not starting it with the a/c and radio on-- easier on the starter. This car does not let me do that.

... is this one of those amazing regional settings? 'cause if I switch the AC off, the car will start with the AC off...

Really? I have to try that one. I have never turned my AC off as I am perfectly happy with it always on. I don't worry about my starter, I am sure BMW has designed the car correctly.

Well, you shouldn't start a car with the AC on if it's really cold outside. -15 C is bad for the longivety of the compressor. And SAAB doesn't recomend you to use the AC below +13 degrees C (never understood this magic limit - hope they do!)
