1. The original post was talking about a UK spec car, and we need to differentiate between Euro spec and US spec. Euro spec cars have the correct modules to be able to be coded for electric folding.
2. For Euro spec, Assuming you have electrically folding mirrors fitted to your car (or retro-fitted more likely), then it is possible to code the car to make them electrically fold, either with (correct) switch panel on door card, and/or with keys. Have never heard of anyone getting them coded to fold just with the keys, but I don't see why it would not be possible (- Bruce - any idea ?).
3. Just because you have memory seats on your car - does not necessarily mean you have electrically folding mirrors. This is where the original poster has been misled by the dealer - these two options are not linked in any way. You'd have to retro-fit the mirrors - many users here have fitted M5 mirrors and got them coded to electrically fold. As far as I know all M5 mirrors have the electric folding motor in them.
4. Just to state the obvious answer to the question - How do I know if my car has the electrically folding mirrors fitted already ? You would have the folding switch on your door card switch panel...........BMW would not go to the trouble and cost of factory fitting electrically folding mirrors if the customer had not specified it as an option.
This does not necessarily mean that your keys have been programmed to fold them aswell - I think that is a dealer added option, unless you specified it on the new order.
Hope this is all clear and helpful.

You guys have to realize that the original poster is talking about UK Dealership Europe dealership. Not the US.
The US will not do it for 2004-2007 e60's. They dont have the software / option to.
Folding is only available for 2006/2007 M5's and LCI E60's with premium package.
But there might be a way for 2004-2007 e60's soon....

I have a UK 2005 E61 530D
It has standard folding mirrors and standard electric seats.
The mirrors fold from the button on the drivers door.
For a charge of ?60 my dealers (Dick Lovett Swindon), programmed my two keys to autofold the mirrors by holding the key button down when locking.
They auto unfold when unlocking.
You do not need memory seats for this function, it can be added by the dealer programing the keys as long as you have folding mirrors.

My SA who is a really good friend of mine says it cannot be done for any US spec E60 although I didn't ask him about the M5.

Your dealer is wrong. It is possible. My car has it coded to fold/unfold from the key fob, and I only have the half electric seats.
Don't talk to a dealer - most of them have not got a clue when it comes to coding. Speak to Jason Balbier of B&W Chiptune:

jason says it can only be done for cars with memory seats, i emailed him
I had it added, the dealer just needs to code the keys. As long as you already have folding mirrors of course.
Suggest your dealer phones Dick Lovett in Swindon and asks them how to do it!
