bimmer530iguy, my two 911's have both been 997's (I had an 07 S Coupe and just got the 08 S Cab) so I'm not going to be much help in terms of a comparison with the 996. I did look pretty hard at an M5 and toyed with the M6 too, in the end the drivers for getting the 997 were that it's not my only car (so I have something larger when I need the space) and also the reasons mentioned earlier in this thread (I really like the agility, handling and steering in the Porsche). Deals weren't quite as good on the M5/M6 as I could get on the 997 (I got the 08 for below invoice) but that wasn't the primary factor, I just liked the 997 and having had the Coupe it made sense to get the Cab I'd always wanted. If it were my only car I'd have looked harder at the M5 (it really is the ultimate sedan, by a mile) but as it's a shared daily driver I can live with the loss of space so here I am in another 997, and it's just phenomenal.
