Guess I have to change my user name.
Just about to get a little shut eye and BAM! you hit me with this surprise. The way you were arguing your case I thought you were getting a 535i. Haha... two future 550i owners arguing. Your name is really misleading. PM Lomag to change it to italia550i pronto!

Dunno. I guess I was playing referee this time around and not stirring up trouble. Geez, I'm mellowing out.

Ummm... yeah, only problem is the almighty 520i isn't available in the US. So, all we have left are the meager 550i and 535i models.

Come on man-quite honestly I have never had a problem of passing someone in a couple seconds in a 530. Assuming your not trying to pass someone doing 90-people doing 75ish I tend to pass all the time and usually if your passing you are doing more than them so its a matter of exiting your lane-pressing the pedal and your past them before the pedal is slammed.

I cant see someone getting a 550 to decrease highway passing by a second-maybe in germany but not here in the states.
Hmm, if you look at it another way, why did you get the 530 instead of a 525? You wanted more power right.

I posted in your other thread, but basically I mentioned that there were passes that I could make with the 545i that I wouldn't even attempt in a slower car.

That was what I was thinking-although I love the look of the 5-I have NEVER seen an e60 driven-no I takei t bakc-one older dude had some fun and ran with me in a 550 but have never seen a 550 or any e60 actually drive at all indicitive of pushing the car-so not sure what most of the people here do with their 550s-but that was a thread I started so will not be redundant
The e60 is a sporty sedan, but it is still remains a family sedan. Most of the e60s on the road will surely be driven in a mile manner, but there are plenty of enthusiasts who push their e60s quite hard. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Highway runs can be fun, but does get a bit old at times. I much prefer the twists and turns of some good back roads. I've gone on plenty of spirited canyon runs with a stock 545i and have been able to keep up with M3s, and even porsches. The owners of these cars are always surprised how well the big car does.

OK, you would choose the 535 at the same price, spend $1200 to risk losing warranty and gain 50HP.
Let's see: You would have a 535 with 350HP vs 360HP on 550, no aero kit, 18" run flats vs 19 non RF, and still pay $1200 more for your 535?

Are you sure? Somehow I don't see that.
Just to point it out, that "tune/chip" will give the 535 roughly 340-350 hp at the wheels and roughly 370ft-lb of torque at the wheels. This is compared to the 550s 360hp at the crank.

So basically the 535 will have over 400bhp and a whole lot more torque which will make it a good deal faster than a 550. For the 550 to compete with these numbers, it would need a supercharger that would cost at least 10K.

All your other points are valid. I too have mentioned that once you get a 535 to look and perform like a 550, then the cost difference is pretty much non-existent.

One could say that if you want to mod the car, then get a 535 and if you wish to leave it stock then get a 550 w/ sports package. But the thing is, most of these 535s will remain completely stock.

That's outside a restaurant in Oceanside. The 996TT is sweet (stage II protomotive), but I'd probably take a 997S for roughly the same price.

BTW, all those guys are quite welcoming when it comes to their cars. While on a group drive, the 996TT driver offered several times to switch cars so I could drive his car. I politely declined as I didn't want to impose. For the guy that did drive his car, he mentioned that he got it up to 140mph multiple times.
