550i Engine at Idle Noise

First off, I am not a certified BWW mechanic.
I assume you're referring to the ticking sound? If so, the ticking sounds seems pretty distinguished. I have been an owner of my 07 550i since it had 15000 miles on it, and it has had the same ticking sound since I took ownership (22000 miles ago), though I am unsure if it is slightly less distinguished or not than yours...hard to tell without putting our cars side by side.

When was the last time you changed the oil?
My car, also a 2007 550i, begins to sound like that about 6K miles after my oil change. After the change, everything is nice and quiet again (like a Lexus). The oils is extremely dirty after just 6K miles, which begs to ask why does BMW recommends changing oil every 15K miles?
