Well if you do decide to go with the corolla be sure to keep a pic of your 550 on the dash and keep chanting "theres no place like home, theres no place like home"

How about getting a beater truck instead? Then you'll have a multi-purpose 2nd/beater car as well.

Why in the world would you buy the Corolla if the winters scare you... there is no way that car is going to be good in the snow! Not to mention everything everyone above already mentioned about it...

I have a Jeep as my Winter/Summer fun car... I would say if its snow and ice you are afraid of, you are better off with a 4x4 beater...

I've driven my 545 through deep enough snow that I was plowing with the front fascia, probably 10", and it did fine. It's a perfect winter car, with RWD (much more fun than FWD in the snow!), stability control, and heated seats it's like a giant snowmobile, only comfortable. If you buy the beater you'll miss the comfort of the BMW, that was my logic anyway. I'm running Michelin X-Ice tires in the winter.

I agree with the others, if you do buy a winter beater, get AWD or 4WD. My wife drives an older ML320, it's a great all around winter/towing/mudding/kid hauler car.

Haha. Good idea! I'm gonna do that with my daily driver.
