I can't find the recent thread where the 545i and the 550i were even--one of your testing/racing threads. Would you link it for swaja? Thanks much.
Thanks Znod, I think I do remember those threads, my point (and I think the experience from the guys from the SoCal meetings probably does bear it out) was that none of the (545 or 550) times from the meeting, apart from Eric's IS350 times, were even remotely close to the times you are able turn in. It's testament to the fact that practice does indeed make a material difference, and no one with a 550 has yet shown or been able to show your level of commitment to the cause! Nearest we have seems to be Eric who's sadly nailed it in his Lexus rather than his E60

The B5 is darn close to, and actually may be, my favorite car--with a somewhat reasonable price.
Thanks!

And of course with the Touring bodyshell, there's the extra weight over the rear, for better traction at the strip!

The thread where the 545 got a better time than a 550 was due to fact that iceman316's exhaust is hindering him. He managed a 5.9 whereas I got a 5.6. On the highway both heezy545i and I were able to pull on his 550. Iceman316 likes the sound of his exhaust too much to fix the problem.

At the same Meet, hollywoodtrash's 550 SMG got a 5.4 or 5.2 and EBMCS03's IS 350 got the 5.0. Hollywoodtrash borrowed my G-Meter for a week and did some more tests and his best time was a 5.1.

I will have to agree with swajames on this. Practice, practice, practice makes perfect launches. Both grogan545 and znod are masters at launching their cars. Put either one in a 550 Step and I bet they will best their 545 times.

I sort of get it, but there is nothing magical about the way I drive/launch my car. And, note here that Bokke, who weights about 240 as I recall and has had a great deal of trouble in controlling the wheel spin in his manual 545i, is doing pretty much as well, if not better than, the 550i guys. Here are Bokke's results. Note, however, that he had better weather than the 550i guys have had.

Bokke (Manual)

Quoting myself, "when I get the new test, I'll make a comparison table similar to the one in the post including both US 550i tests and my car's current data."
OK here, I go. I'll post the new test's data as soon as I get the mag.

The values for the 550i on the left below the line are taken from RT 7/06. The values on the right below are from my 5 best adjusted passes. These values have been adjusted for weather and altitude from 1,600' to 500'. I think they still ought to be reasonably comparable to the rest because of my altitude.

.................................................. ...........Step
.....................Manual.........Step......Best 5--Adjusted
0 to:..............550i/RT.......550i/CD....Znod's Avg
10.......................4........................ .........35
20.....................1.1........................ .......1.0
30.....................1.8........................ .......1.7
40.....................2.6........................ .......2.8
50.....................3.9........................ .......3.8
60.....................5.0..............5.2....... .....4.9

100..................12.1............12.7......... .12.0
1/4...............13.5@105..13.7@104...13.4@106

Passing:
30-70................4.8............................. ..4.8 (All passing stats obtained by subtraction.)
40-80................5.7............................. ..5.3
50-90................6.2............................. ..6.0
50-100..............8.2.............................. .8.2
60-100..............7.1..............7.5............. 7.1

I am thinking that my remarks here are looking prophetic.

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=30139

It got moved to the meet and greet section. If you guys are interested in any further discussion in that thread, it should be moved to the main forum.

I updated the above post as best I could when my CD arrived. Unfortunately, it did not provide much info.
