Oh come on guys don't start the childish discussion abotu the fact that the diesel is turboed and the petrol isn't. That's so immature.
Wake up it's the reality: BMW offers both peaches and oranges. (petrol and diesel).

shite is saying that BMW dont offer the 545i in the UK. the other statement is argumented by tests. Go read the other forums
go check Znod's theads. The 545i unmodded can roun 0-100 in little over 5 seconds

BMW stopped selling the 545i in the UK nearly 2 years ago due to a lack of demand. Their are some used examples available through the BMW network.
Well according again to BMW, the 550i can manage 0-100KMH in 5.6 seconds & the DMS 535D can do that in 5.5 secs. so care to expand on how a standard 545i can do this quicker that BMW state for a 550i

BMW do NOT sell a 545i in the UK. They did in the past but they certainly don't now & have not for some time.

BMW's times for their range are pessimistic, most cars are quicker. DMS's times are quite optimistic , i dont think any of their modded cars will run 0-62 in 5.5

Znod And grogan545 have accurately measured that teh 545i untuned can do 0-60 in around 5.05-5.1s
And besides the DMS figures have not been confrimed by any magazine. EVO itself (as far as i remember) did not test the time
ACTUALLY Grogan545 managed a 0-60 sprint (timed) for 4.90s with dtc and dsc on and in D (not DS)
GT2 meter; 1? rollout; D mode; DSC/DTC on; Tries for Minimal Wheelspin

The 5.6 for the 550i is indeed for the 0-100kph with auto transmission.

there is the thread
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=22686
and just for example. The 3litre bi-turbo engine in the Toyota Supra R produces 400bhp/620nm, so as Georgos said put turbos on a benzin engine and well..

I'm guessing the car you mention is a fairly special one, but it's certainly not a Toyota stock model. All the Supra bi-turbo cars are listed here & the best you'll see is 280ps (a little more than a standard 535D

Sorry w8pmc but 5.5 seconds for the DMS 535D is nonsence. A 330hp 535D does it in 5.8 so your figures are impossible. U r probably comparing 0-60 mph with 0-100kph and thats not correct.

You'll see that the diesel has more + than - vs the petrol brother.

Personally I fancy a 540i for the V8 and 'reasonable' running costs but the depreciation is projected to be awful compared with any of the diesels or even 550i!?

I doubt you saw a 545i vs 535D on Top gear, as the 545i is not available in the UK & never has been so why would a UK TV show test the car. I watch Top Gear religiously & can't recall such a test, although i do recall the 535D being tested a while back.
We have the 540i & the 550i with the 0-60 times for these cars being 6.3 for the 540 (the same as a standard 535D) & 5.6 for the 550i (0.1 sec more than a DMS 535D). So safe to say the difference between standard 545i & standard 535D is hardly going to be a country mile & whichever way you look at the cars, the torque from the 535D in standard form is higher than an M5 so much higher than 540i, 545i & 550i.
I cetainly don't think the 535D is the fastest or best car in the world & that's having traded into a 535D from a car MUCH faster than an E60 M5, but let's be sensible when comparing the 535D with it's petrol equivalents.
Agreed that an M3 will show a standard 535D a clean pair of heels & your competitor was a little stupid to think otherwise, however i'd happily take such a race/chance, as i know my car has a fighting chance although i believe the M3 would still have the edge but it's only a slight edge. On a track, the M3 would of course win by a reasonable margin.

The TG test between 535d and 545i involved JC and the Stig driving round the normal track. When the race started the 545i got a cars length on the 535d but after that they were virtually glued together. They didn't show the middle part of the race, for some reason, but went to the finish line showing the 545i beating the 535d by 3 seconds. Obviously staged to make the diesel look crap as JC can't bring himself to admit how good they are.
The TG lap time for the std 535d, with the Stig driving, is 1.31.8 which is the same time as the M3, Nissan 350 and Mazda RX8. Funnilly enough there is no time for the 545i, but if you take 3 seconds off the 535d time it does it in almost the same time as a Dodge Viper.
![Think](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/think.gif)
Don't get me wrong I'd love to drive round in a 545i but as its only marginally faster and with fuel at ?5 a gallon in the UK I'll stick with the diesel.
