i had enough fun with the m3, i think ***i should enjoy it now. He is so happy, and that makes me happy in turn. I am deliberating on somethign very quick to get next but am unsure. I am looking at 650i/cls550 as you know As for the x5, sure its slower but i can drive over your 535d if im bored. Also i have the 330xd to drive, and for some reason you are hesitant to race me with it ? also i could just take the 745li out of the garage, and smoke some 535d

and if i dont manage then ... i seriously dont think its that quick, christ i drove one of the first ones in bulgaria, in the bmw driving days... i was impressed , but not that much
man , i dont know why. i really dont like .... anyways

The only authoratative mag i would be willing to quote is evo, and that timed the 535d to 6.3s or so ?
First race the three against the seven and then come with the winner. Frankly neither has a chance

p.s. X5 is made to drive over curbs and thats about it

ok , ill get the summer rims tomorrow, and ill let you know

as for the second comment. I kind of understand you, having access to only one car, i would not be suprised if i replied like you.
Strangely enough the owner of the m3 also drives an X5 3.0d like mine, and is absolutely impressed by it... oh and BTW i
saw him in chervilo last friday, boy did he laugh when i told him about your comparison on the 645i vs 535d.

and btw dont reserve your judgement for something you have not
1)extensively driven
2)have access to/own.

believe me no matter how much you praise your 535d, there are at least 10 cars in BMW's line-up that are quicker/better

Some poor people only have one car... but as they can only drive one at a time it doesn't matter so much

Perhaps so... but it is a great car and I would rather have one than an x5 (too bling), 330d (too common) or any 7 series (too much) (although I'd swallow my pride for a 760i)

But not an m3....................................(or a 645i)..............

So much quicker... probably not. Actually I was looking at second hand sixes with 5000-6000km on the clock and they did work out slightly cheaper than my 535d (sixes dont do very well second hand) but then I drove one and was deeply unimpressed. Doesnt feel like a sportscar should, like I said in my previous post every time you want to get a move on you have to press the pedal to the floor so hard that after a year or so you would probably make a hole in it (auto tranny). Nice interior and sound but it needs the torque of the diesel, the 45 engine is just too relaxed for my liking. Now a 635d that would be a different story . Havent driven a 650, cant comment. That engine makes an incredible sound in the X5 though.
Let me jump into the frey here with my old decrepit 645Ci with only 20,200 miles as I am just barley limping along and not sure I could muster enough grunt to handle a 535d.

Now I have not gone thru every thread and picked out the best numbers for the 535d, so I used only the data available in FastSaloons as a comparison. You are certainly free to take your own sources of 535d data for comparison against my 645 numbers. I just wanted to point out that I can only find one measure that I cannot best in the data FastSaloons presented. Oh, and for some reason or other the floor under my gas pedal is still holding up just fine.

Here are a couple of charts for your reviewing pleasure: Enjoy

The comparo:

and the four most recent rounds that I used to calculate the average and worst data:

That kinda answers that then. The G-Tech 0-60 at 4.9 seems a little fresh does it not?? Given the 645's power, i'd be pushed to believe a standard car can hit 60 in under 5 seconds, however i'm not BMW expert. That's only .4secs slower than the M5.

Anyhow it does show that although a DMS 535D could come fairly close, a standard 535D would be left behind.

Check out all the times being reported here. And, .4 secs is many car lengths at well over 100 MPH. Finally, remember that an individual also might be able to improve the mag times for the M5. Wolverine, for one, is working on it. Here is what he reported recently.

"Found a nice spot where I can do some 1/4 mile runs with the Gtech. Best run out of 4 was 12.57@117.8 with a 2.13 60 ft time. 0-60 mph time was 4.45 sec. I didn't quite hit the shift points at the right times, so I'm sure there is room for improvement."
