Congratulations on the Jeep. I hope it's reputation for poor reliability is not true in your vehicle.
As far as service in the NYC vicinity, IMHO, there are certainly some very good dealers to service BMWs and there
are as well a number of superb private shops for those out of warranty.
Where did you service yours?

My Ride: 05 545i Black, auto trans, sport package

So I traded in my 2004 545i with about 102k mi and got myself a fully loaded 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. I still miss the sport package handling of my 545, but the power (420hp) and all the options included (Brembo brakes, Bilstein shocks, 20" rims, remote start, subwoofer, hard drive, usb, dvd video, etc.) make up for the missing feeling.
The 545i was a great performance car and mostly reliable. During the 50k+ miles I put on in 2.5 years I did not have to fix anything, just performed regular maint. But getting over 100k miles takes its toll on the performance, and although handling remained the same, power loss was evident. Additionally, finding a reliable local dealer in NYC area is a challenge, so I did most of the work myself.
At this point I am glad I made the switch.

This bike is very special to me, I am actually building another one like this.
For the MPG, I get 10.8 on average for highway, city, occasional full throttle (last time vs. 645 who, as I passed looked very surprised) and running engine while parked (something I never done on my 545). The car has a remote start, so I put it on to warm up before getting in. Best MPG was 17 while cruising on the highway, worst was 3.9 after the test drive at the dealer. The 545i was 17 MPG on average and I agree it would gain power after a tuneup, I even had a set of sparks ready, but never got around to it.
My not so pleasant experience was with Brooklyn BMW dealer. I dealt with them on 3 occasions and each time I felt frustrated. Once they tried to take me for more money then originally agreed on and their shuttle service took longer to arrive then if I would walk, then they did a wheel alignment and returned my car with the steering pointing to 11 o'clock and after they told me it would be only 2 hours, I ended up spending the whole day (7:30am - 3pm) at the dealership.
As far as the price of the truck - I got a really good deal on the truck, about $10k off the sticker (attached below), but gave up about $700-500 on the trade, but its not like I am not complaining. So, akstylenyc, checking what can you get for your 545 outside, is a good idea.
The options I miss already:
1) 545 sport handling,
2) 6 speed manual and the 6th gear,
3) And I don't mean to sound girly, heated steering.
