No valve-tapping noise here - although it could be drowned out by my creaking door seals.

How about this for excessive; I just left for lunch with a co-worker who has never been in my car. He noticed right away and asked me what the hell was wrong with my car. My car happily tapped away for 2 miles to the restaurant, and tapped all the way back to my office. It takes about 5 miles for the engine noises to subdue. I have to endure this every single time I take a short trip.

Please let me know if you haven't notice any unusual noises from your engine.

So it goes away after about 5 miles? Have you had the oil changed and do you know what weight oil was used?

Also, I do not have any abnormal engine noise at all, cold or hot. Although, I have had U.S. built cars that were a little clickety when they were on the cold side - normal valve lifter noise.

No, I am still using the original stuff that they put in the factory. The I-drive indicates 7,000 mile but the dealer told me that this means to change oil in another 7,000 miles, rather than at 7,000 miles. I will check my manual to see if he's right.

Sounds like you have a problem with your dealer, can you go elseware?

Luckily in NY we have BMW NA so close by and 2 factory stores so things get settled when you bark at them.

Anyone on here work for BMW and can supply this member with some inside documents on this problem to support him???

I would write letters to BMW Germany with a sworn affidavitt or something (saying the noise is not normal). I would still also think about sueing their butt because you can find MANY attorneys on line that will take a lemon law case and you only pay if you win. How much you pay, I'm not certain. I would NOT stand for this BS.

I mean, at least get them to do a trade for one that's silent. That seems reasonable, right? If they claim it's normal, then they should have no issue with taking it back and re-selling it as "Certified Pre-Owned".

Looks like you need to take this to another level, IMO.

No irregular tapping noises in my 4.4L engine and that's with 9,000+ miles on it.

Does it get louder the higher you rev the motor? Also, are you selling the car because of this noise?

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
" 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door;
Only this, and nothing more."

I do not have any tapping noise. If you really think it could qualify under the lemon law contact the Dept of Consumer Affairs for California. You pay taxes for this consumer service, in NY it costs $25 bucks to start.
