A 2005 545 can be leased for less than a 2006 530 and less than 2006 330i.
Software is always upgradeable and the warranty means you can get many improvements along the way.? New Tires,? door seals, etc.

If money is no object then wait for the 550.? Otherwise the 545 is a steal today.

I've always been a buyer, not a leaser, but perhaps a lease is worth looking into! So far they are at sticker price minus $3000.00, and there is a little more room to go I believe.

I'd do Munich delivery for the 550i, which would likely put a similarly equipped 2006 550i at ~$1000 more than the 2005 545i I'm considering, factoring in (a) a 7% discount from sticker price for Euro. delivery and (b) a sticker price $2000 higher for the 550i than the 545i (just a guess on my part).

Decisions . . . decisions!

Bart, if you are buying with cash and planning ED then I would wait for summer 2006.

1. The price on the 550 should be more negotiable by then.
2. The experience is so much better in warm weather.

Do a June or early July delivery. August is not nice in Europe especially if you head south to Italy.

Thanks for the input all!

Hormazd, have you found the ED price to be negotiable? I was under the impression that the dealers make little enough on ED such that there isn't much room to negotiate. I'd love to be educated however.

If I can actually get a nice vacation out of the trip, then yes early next summer would be ideal. But I've toyed with the idea of even just making it a 2 day turn-around trip in say Nov. or Dec. 2005. At least I'd get to enjoy the factory tour (which I've never been able to work into a business trip to Munich).

Thumbs down

The 540i has 282hp and 324 ft-lbs of torque US

The 545i has 325hp and 330 ft-lbs of torque US

The 550i should have *360hp and 360 ft-lbs of torque*

Hence the 545i is quicker than the 540i but the 550i will surpass both.

The future 550i should be at least a 0.5 seconds quicker than a 545i 0 to 60mph:'(

Question

But don't get the 550i in the 1st production year unless you like to live dangerously!

True, but members on this board have negotiated $2000 over ED invoice. Next time I try too.

You must try and get a vacation out of the trip. Thats what makes it really fun. The 2 day trip has been done and if the airline ticket is free it may be worth it.

I must differ here. The 2004 E60 had kinks in tires, door seals, rattles, interior trim, TCU module and software. The 550i is still an E60 and will be in its 3rd year of production with all the above issues worked out. The one thing BMW do well is make great engines, I doubt it will be a problem.

Talking

Sure the E60 will be in the 3rd year of production but the new V8 will be in it's 1st.

I'd rather gamble on real estate or the stock market.

For instance the N62 4.4 V8 has been around since the 2002 745i and the N62 still has kinks and gremlins, at least the M54 3.0 inline 6 since the 2001 530i and 330i has proven to be solid up until now.

ED price for a US customer is about $1000 over US invoice I believe, calculated as follows:

On the 2005 545i I'm considering, US sticker price is $59,595. Invoice price is $54,480 per Edmunds and $54,900 per the sales associate. ED price should be $59,595 - 7% = $55,428 if I understand everything correctly.

Thanks again!

Red face

An easy rule of thumb for a good deal on an ED 545i is $7,000 to $7,500 off MSRP(destination inclusive) before you add tax.

ED 530i/525i $7500 to $8,000 off MSRP!
