My Ride: X3 | 3.0 | 6-speed manual

*edit* Whoops meant 550i not 560!
Just found this forum, and I've not seen this addressed, at least recently.
I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger to trade my 2004 X3 and purchase a 545i. (I don't LOVE the X3 and I want a car that I LOVE every day.) There are a few cars in the area (all identical; must be a 'standard' build for the 6-speed manual in New England -- sapphire black, black leather, premium sound, cold weather and folding rear seat) and I can get one for $2000 or a little more off list, but can't do much better.
But then I do a bit more reading....and see that the engines will (probably?? definitely??) change this fall. I'm in no hurry really, so now I'm pondering waiting. Of course, one can always wait for the 'next better version' and never jump in, and that applies to cars, computers, whatever.
Has anyone been thinking along these same lines regarding the 545?
I think that there is zero incentive on the 545 for April, but over $4000 for the 330's. Perhaps as the 5500 release data approaches there will be some cash offered to the dealers on the 545. Thus, perhaps another reason to wait a lil.

I just extended the lease on my '02 540 in hopes of taking delivery of a 550i in the Fall.
Damn I hate waiting...but I know I would hate seeing a 550i blow by me even more!

Well what can a 545i owner do to get some real power without trading in for a 550i?
Cold air intake?

Besides, whats a few grand savings when you are talking 60k.
You mentioned 540 in your header - not even an option. I was torn also, but after two of by buddies with 540's have driven my 545, there coments where "lighter, faster, quieter"

There are a few things to consider:
1. The lease rate on the 545 right now is .001. That is incentive enough.
2. New engine probably means new software. New bugs.
Maybe I am wrong, but something to consider.
I pulled the trigger anyway. If money is a consideration, the deals on the 545 are screaming right now. I just could not pass that up.

However, you would think the same to be true for the 4.4l since it was out 2 years prior in the 7 series.
I still want the 550. Don't need it, but want it.

[/quote]jsal, your buddies no way can have E60 540 to compare with your 545, it will be launched with 550 in fall. 540 will have 4.0 (not old 4.4) enigne with 390Nm torgue and 306HP, but you right it will be slower then 545, but way faster then E39 540
