1.? The lease rate on the 545 right now is .001.? That is incentive enough.?

2.? New engine probably means new software.? New bugs.

Maybe I am wrong, but something to consider.

I pulled the trigger anyway.? If money is a consideration, the deals on the 545 are screaming right now.? I just could not pass that up.

I would not think the software would be a big deal. The 4.8l is basically the same and has been out in the X5 since last summer.

However, you would think the same to be true for the 4.4l since it was out 2 years prior in the 7 series.

You are probably right about the software, but I am trying to justify why I am not cancelling my order and waiting as well. I still think the lease rates on the 550 will be on par with the 6 series making payments over 1K standard, but we will see.
I still want the 550. Don't need it, but want it.

Screaming deals? I'd think that the deals will be even better when BMW throws some incentive money in. I don't think that there is any in April.

But even $2000 off list is probably screaming compared to when the car was first released -- is that what you mean?

Thanks,
Bart

I don't understand what the big deal is about a 545 vs. 550. It's not like the 545 is slow. If the 550i gets 345-355 hp that 20-30 HP gain will not be a big difference. The 545i will do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Maybe the 550i will do it in 5.4 seconds. Hey in that .2 seconds I can mess around with the iDrive some more

The screaming deal is you can lease a 545 for less than what a 06 530 will go for. BMWNA will not throw in trunk money to the 545 because they are no inventory issues with them. Yes, maybe July and August will be different but right now, the deals on the 545i lease is too good to pass up.

My real issue is buying a new car in April that is an "old model" in September.

Its really not an issue if you are leasing, at least for me. Heck, I'll be driving around in a 67K car w/ lease payments for less than 700 a month. Oh yeah, do it with Euro Delivery and the experience can't be beat!

Just found this forum, and I've not seen this addressed, at least recently.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger to trade my 2004 X3 and purchase a 545i.? (I don't LOVE the X3 and I want a car that I LOVE every day.)? There are a few cars in the area (all identical; must be a 'standard' build for the 6-speed manual in New England -- sapphire black, black leather, premium sound, cold weather and folding rear seat) and I can get one for $2000 or a little more off list, but can't do much better.

But then I do a bit more reading....and see that the engines will (probably?? definitely??) change this fall.? I'm in no hurry really, so now I'm pondering waiting. Of course, one can always wait for the 'next better version' and never jump in, and that applies to cars, computers, whatever.

Has anyone been thinking along these same lines regarding the 545?

I think that there is zero incentive on the 545 for April, but over $4000 for the 330's.? Perhaps as the 5500 release data approaches there will be some cash offered to the dealers on the 545.? Thus, perhaps another reason to wait a lil.

My 545i is great and I love it, but it is killing me to know that after one year of ownership there is going to be a 550 out. I would wait a few months for the 550.

Besides, whats a few grand savings when you are talking 60k.

You mentioned 540 in your header - not even an option. I was torn also, but after two of by buddies with 540's have driven my 545, there coments where "lighter, faster, quieter"

jsal, your buddies no way can have E60 540 to compare with your 545, it will be launched with 550 in fall. 540 will have 4.0 (not old 4.4) enigne with 390Nm torgue and 306HP, but you right it will be slower then 545, but way faster then E39 540
My mistake sorry - did not know there was going to be an E60 - 540. Probably a euro only?

A 2005 545 can be leased for less than a 2006 530 and less than 2006 330i.
Software is always upgradeable and the warranty means you can get many improvements along the way. New Tires, door seals, etc.

If money is no object then wait for the 550. Otherwise the 545 is a steal today.

550 = 360hp (35hp gain which is similar gain to that the 545i had over the E39 540). I agree, my 545 has plenty of power - but as I said; Don't need it, But want it!

I ordered my 545i end of may 04 and took delivery end of Aug 04. I had already waited most of the model year and since the car looked the exact same and I was not getting NAV, I did not wait for the new model.

Besides, the next model starts build Sep 1, which means deliveries are beginning in mid October. The dealer also told me, which he may be wrong, that they start building 525/530 first, then 545's come later. So, he estimated 545 delivery would be in Nov. That was a long time to delay when I was in May.

But I agree with your thinking. If you can wait, then get the new model.
