545 - HESITATION OFF IDLE
#22
Thanks for this tranny reset post. I bought an '04 545i sport 5 months ago with 87k miles and have only added about 1000 miles on it because of the way it drove/shifted. I preferred driving my '01 crew cab silverado instead. I thought I bought a bmw with tranny issues but after the reset, she takes off nice and smooth. A definite difference that everyone should do at least once. I am also going to try the MAF cleaning this weekend.

i think this is a common problem/issue with these 545i. no matter what we do or mod cannot (atleast to me) eliminate this hesitation we are all talking about. i got the s/b, had software updated and do tranny reset and still occasionally get hesitation, but not as bad as before. i've just learn to reset regularly and pretty much accepted it.

I have an 05 545i as well and was very frustrated with this problem. It makes the car impossible to drive smoothly in stop and go traffic. My solution was the sprint booster. It absolutely cures the problem. There is a trade-off however. Now the car is almost too responsive especially to other drivers in my car. Also, it is very difficult to break smoothly with the sprint booster. I find that I definitely have to depress the break harder and longer to get the car to stop now, and it feels like the gas pedal is still being pushed just a little.
But it does solve the problem. Also I rarely need to put the car into sport mode anymore because the shifts are much better. IF you get a sprint booster read all the threads about installation problems 1st so that you don't do it wrong and set off your engine malfunction light like I did. Still need to get rid of that.
