Drop me a sympathy post if you feel so inclined. The dealer and BMWNA are a disappointment to say the least.

The local dealer give me the feeling that they really don't care about this problem and I am not even sure they really talked to BMWNA.

This is disappointing and maddening. Since it looks like I am screwed I will publish a very detailed tear down of this motor along with some expert commentary.
How many owners Your car had? Where did You usualy service Your E60? Did You have Your service done allways on time? (no negative miles on service indicator) Have You EVER mentioned about strange noise comming from motor? This all counts, and will be taken in consideration when BMWNA makes it's decision.

I have ticking noise on my 2007 550i. I am going to the dealer tomorrow armed with a video of my engine and the ticking sound, several 545i videos of the ticking sound as well as one video of 650 (same v8 in the 550) normal sound an an X5 V8 with no ticking.

I still have 2+ years and 50k of warranty (extended Platinum). I will tell them flat out that I know the ticking is not normal so no BS. If they try to BS me, I will go start up every 550i they have on the lot to prove the point that the ticking is not normal.

Man... I was so intrigued and shocked at hearing this... I'm so glad you got everything covered with $700 compared to the original $32k or something rather of the engine itself...

Is this problem only happening on E60 V8 engines? I've done 64,500km w/ my straight six 3litre... I have no idea what the sound of the ticking/knocing sound is and would like to know so that I can tell if my car is doing the same sooner than later!

Scored cylinder problems and tapping noises are mostly V8 problems. See page #5 of this topic there is a youtube link with how engine sounds when cylinder is scored. 32K is the price of brand new long block. BMW covered my car that was passed warranty but I had to pay the taxes.
