I will keep You guys posted. I do not see the point why to change oil more frequently then needed this engine in europe has 25000KM oil interval why would it be different here? What is more important is not to step on it when engine is cold . and breake it in the right way. Oil changes are important but let's not overestimate it. I will keep You posted!

Congrats Rafi, this is great news!!! Glad you kept on them, and that they did the right thing. My father in law works for BMW Westmont. They are a great dealer, and I knew they'd do the right thing.

I have to ask though, what were the symptoms that led up to this? I have a 2004 545i sport, that acts weird when cold. Upon acceleration, it sort of "sputters" or hesitates. But then once warm, this all disappears. No ticking or anything though, as you were hearing....

Thanks, and again, congratulations! I'm sure you'll have a much better weekend now!

But a V8 engine not reaching 120.000 miles is a junk I am thinking what to call the one not beeing able to do 60.000. Damn it.
Nevertheless this should not have happened. Reading this post and having 545i with 65K out of warranty makes me shit scared.....

I have an '04 545i with 60k miles and no warranty, how much longer until mine blows up!?!?

yes after this forum so much anxiety. for some reason if i see a "trouble" post most likely it says "545" in the title as well.

good thing is, most of the cases are with "happy end" and forum helps a lot to prevent things and fix them smarter.

Rafi, with all due respect, I urge you to at least research the subject. I am aware that BMW recommends 15000 miles / 25000 Km oil changes, but there are many benefits to changing your oil more frequently. There are many sites on the web that discuss this matter and you will find very few that will agree to the longer intervals. You, of course are free to do whatever you wish, but this is the reason why we're all here; to discuss car related subjects and research. Especially in colder climate, the oil collects more moisture and there have been many cases where this moisture freezes the oil separator causing it to clog up and causing the oil to wreak havoc with gaskets and other things. By replacing the oil more frequently, you're at least removing this moisture from the engine plus it benefits your engine anyway. Good luck with your new engine.

Congrats on new engine!

I got the same engine knocking issue. BMW replaced the engine at 13K miles, and gave me $1000 on top of that! Seriously!
