I had 545i before as well. I went with 535i primarily because the speed/power difference isn't there like it was between 530i and 545i. It was a big difference before and that made 545i decision pretty easy.

Now there's isn't much of a difference with all the torque up-front and I didn't feel like paying extra for a V8 and body moulding. I spent my money on a few more options this go around like Nav, Comfort access, iPod integration, rear folding seats instead.

I did end up installing Procede on my 535i. It's a totally different car to say the least.
What was the power increase and torque increase for the Procede and how does the car perform with it? What kills do you have?

My butt dyno says money well spent. The difference is night and day when I step on the gas. Delivery is right there and the car pulls really strong. Completely different car. It's been fun at the stoplights and the freeways as folks don't give the car much credit. Had some fun laughs with a couple of Mustangs and Chargers.

If you goto vishnutuning.com or check out the posts on e90post.com you can read all night about the increased hp/torque that folks are getting with Procede and other aftermarket products like Dinan. BMW's trend towards turbo charging now with their engines is going to create a large aftermarket crowd. All that low end torque makes a big difference. Am looking forward to the 4.4 V8 turbo and the tweaks folks will offer.

Don't regret my 535i decision, especially even more so now with Procede. But the performance difference isn't what it used to be and that was my deciding factor.

Well, I was leaning toward getting the 535i, though I still need to do some highway based test driving. So what does my wife tell me to get?

550i

I am still excited, in two weeks 384 hp and 421 ft lbs of torque! That jump in torque has got to feel huge...
But you know what, thats the same 60 ft/lbs difference as between the 535 and 550. I might only be .2 sec quicker than the 550.

Penn - keep us updated about your planned Dinan mods. I was talking with my local BMW dealer about the Dinan mods and they have a dedicated guy on-site who helps their customers with the Dinan mods and they install and warranty (through Dinan of course) everything right at the dealership. He presented a rather good relationship between BMW and Dinan...not that anything was strained or about to change. Back to your mods though, have you started a thread about what you are planning...as I'd like to hear more details. I too have been considering just taking my 535i into the dealer and have them install the Dinan software...

I just installed V2. Let's just say that the "exhaust note" really doesn't matter. I have cleaned off my rear view mirror to make sure I can see everyone behind me.

I think the 550 is the way to go. I always like the naturally aspirated engines, but for BMW to compete with the others.....they need to add enhancements to get inline with the performance numbers that turbos and superchargers bring to the table. This will be the last stand of the large NA engines.....we will see what the life expectency of the twin turbos will be in I6 and future V8.

Now, we have to deal with computer related issues and upgrades...now comes the additional overhead of worrying about turbos. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

My two cents.

If you looking into 550, get it or for the next 3 years ( or whatever long you are planing to keep it) you are going to be questioning your choice. That's what I did first time around. Do not get me wrong, 530 was a great car but it is no 550.
