Not beating a dead horse... I am just amazed and appalled that BMW has not resolved this problem yet.

No you are not beating a dead horse. BMW needs to hear this complaint loud and clear.

Adding a 100mi warranty doesn't solve the fact that HPFP's brick themselves once every 5k miles. BMW NEEDS to FIX this problem. Not with software updates that make your car STUPID, but with a REAL hardware fix.

Crap, just got my first half-engine CEL last night. It was sudden w/o warning, wifey was dropping my son off when the car started sputtering and died, restarted and wouldn't hold idle. I came over cause wifey was upset while waiting for tow truck, and sure enough the car wouldn't idle even with multiple restarts. Initially I thought I'd just drive it slowly cause tow truck ETA was over an hour long but shot-down the idea casue I was worried this car would die on freeway/back-road.
I have no problem if the car gives warning when HPFP is about ready to go but since this can happen rather sudden, what if this happens when you are away from home; even worse when you are passing a semi on hi-way with traffic behind you. This is in my book is as dangerous as 550 brake recalls.

The silly thing I just bought 2011 335i with N55 engine (that has the same HPFP), brilliant :-(

my 535xi was in the shop intermittently from 500-35000 miles, about 5-7 times. reprogramming, the usual crap. finally HPFP was replaced early this summer. runs great FINALLY! IT ONLY TOOK bmw UNTIL 35,000 MILES TO GIVE ME A CAR THAT OPERATES LIKE A NEW ONE!!!

Took my 535 in for possible replacement of 2nd HPFP because of longer than normal crank times. It checked out perfectly. I was told, and it is printed out on my reciept, that the longer crank times are now programed into the new software updates (I have 2.8 because 2.9 is causing too many unexpected problems so they are not using it now) to provied build up of fuel and fuel pressure, in the lines, before engine starts and to lubricate the cylinders before start up.

I had my HPFP replaced the week after I bought my CPO 535xi. I noticed when I got the car back that it had slightly less power.. Does the software update that accompanies a HPFP replacement cut back on the pressure in an attempt to minimize future failures? How can I find out the software changes that were made?

Or perhaps these new HPFP don't pack as much pressure in hopes that they last longer?

Take a look over at E90post.com in the turbo section.

BMW has neutered the motor since software version #28
When I got rid of my 535i they were on v34 and the power still had not come back up to version 25.1-27
