On Saturday while accelerating got the infamous engine malfunction icon in the dash and the reduced power message on I-drive. Tach went from 2K to about 4K. Pulled over and shut off engine and restarted. Icon and message went away. Yesterday, same icon and message appeared while going to work. Aborted work route and dropped car at dealer. HPFP replaced today and all is well. 25K mi on odo. -933 p/n HPFP installed. Had the DME reprogrammed back in July which fixed the long cranking issues that had developed. Running fine till Saturday.

ROFL mine went out last Thursday under the exact same circumstances, I took it in to the dealer yesterday (Monday). This is the second time I'm taking it in regarding the HPFP, the first time they "reprogrammed" it what a load of shit excuse my language All I know is it better be replaced when I go pick it up or they are gonna hear an ear full. Oh and my odometer is reading at 31k, F#%* YOU HPFP that's all I have to say for now

It's a two step process now. Apparently a bunch of good HPFP's were replaced due to bad LPFP's. First, the LPFP output is checked and its output tested for maintaining pressure. If it passes, the DME is programmed to pressurize the fuel system early when a door is opened with the engine off. After reprogramming if there are further issues, the HPFP gets replaced.

More of a nuisance. Next May I'll be turning in the car - lease end. HPFP warranty still in effect for 7 more years.

high pressure fuel pump, known issue with bmw FI engines, specifically but not exclusive to the N54 engine...your 530 won't suffer issues from it...

Thank you for the clarification. Do 550s suffer from this? Pretty sure it's the next ride.

f10 550, as of right now, but is an FI engine with TT V8...the e60 550i: no, again, that engine is an NA V8...the hpfp issue seems to exclusive to Fi engines

***FI=forced induction/turbo engine
***NA= Natural Aspirated engine
