I've just noticed that in this cold weather when the car is cold it sounds a little lumpy (and yes I know it is a diesel!) when idling.
It sorts itself out quick enough and sounds fine.
Anybody else notice this?
Every engine in the world run lumpyer and noisier when the temperature is cold enoug, it is not just
diesels. When it is -40 celcius even the most smoothest engines (if they can start at all) start up like tractors

Fuel consumption after start is also like from different planet, so dont worry. If it bothers you, let the engine run 30-60 seconds before
moving - it helps a little...

Mine does the same thing on a cold morning, but whats really annoying is the gearbox response, particularly in standard D mode.

Drive the car quickly in DS mode its great, but around town driven in D mode the kick down is slow, you find yourself stabbing the gas to get a better response.

Other than driving in DS mode any suggestions.

What I was trying to understand was how you were trying to engage kick-down, if you weren't kicking down the accelerator ("gas" pedal)...

Ehmmm It is called Turbo Lag. A known issue with a turbo engined car and it is the delay between the instant a car's accelerator is depressed and the time the turbocharged engine develops a large fraction of the power available at that point in the engine's power curve (Spool up). This however is much less in the 535d as it uses a smaller turbo, but turbo lag will always be there.

Ok am i invisible or what?

Hmm i don't think he was talking about turbo-lag. I suspect he knows more than you how much his car lags. And i also suspect he was talking about a bigger lag in D mode.

No you are not.

However, I think the only ones on this board that can comment on quality of diesel available in Romania are you and... mmm you. Or perhaps someone like 700700 if MOL is available in Bulgaria, as well as Romania and Hungary (or ATS77, if he goes back every now and then).

Wobbling or vibrations would tend to indicate that the car is running on 5 (or fewer) cylinders - so perhaps there is a fueling problem or an out-of-kilter injector. It should not happen - to the point of wobbling the car - simply because the engine is cold. A little rough idle and noise, yes. Wobbling or hunting (revs changing continuously) mean something's not quite right.
