My Ride: 2006 E60 530 xi six speed manual/Silver gray-auburn/18inch-style123wheels/premium sound and package/HUD/PDC/sport/coldpackage/Sirius/M-aero kit/Nav/comfortseats/shades/comfort access
tires: 245 40 18 Sottozero Pirelli winters (non runflats)
2004 RX330 Lexus - crystal white - reliable, quiet, and the "beater" car for ski trips, hauling, etc.
1995 E34 540i 6 speed black/truffle interior/alpinemp3/XMradio/M5 alloys (Many tears...sold to a fellow Boston bimmer enthusiast!)
I was in an area with poor satellite reception (unknowlingly)- i turned up the volume and no response -
switched to a mp3 and got blasted with music-I was worried I blew out my Logic7 speakers but all is well-and my ears are no longer ringing.....not a smooth move on my part...
BE CAREFUL when using the volume and switching from sound source to sound source - there is no visibile volume indicator on Idrive and so you have no idea how loud it is until it blasts in your car...
Other impressions:
1) PDC - love it! parallel parking around Boston has been a snap and no damage to the garage yet (my regrets to the E60 member with the garage fender bender!) - the sonar is accurate and very helpful. Although for some situations I prefer my video camera (only rear) in the Lexus it doesn't give info on the corners - making the PDC better.
2) 6 speed-smooth, with usable torque in all gears - the 6th gear isn't as tall as my E34 540i sport and so I find myself using it more often.
3) I-Drive- awesome! and the voice commands are very helpful.
4) Ventureshield-lots of salt crystals from the road on the front end - and none directly on the paint - will wash off easily!
5) HUD - with my polarized glasses (Natives) I can see the display - not as well - but still very visible -
Natives are great for sailing/skiiing and driving - and I guess unlike other polarized glasses mentioned in this forum still allow you to see HUD -
6) Comfort access - awesome, awesome, awesome. I cannot imagine not having it now. It should be made standard, however, like in the Lexus.
7) Pirelli 240 Sottozeros - no real snow yet here to test them (too warm today) but on the highway they are very quiet and grippy on the ramps - I love them!
Ok, back to cleaning the garage....
