HI How is Everything
I Was Wondering If We Put The MB E350 Against The Bimmer 530i In An Acceleration Race.
Who Would Win??
And Anyone Had That Kind Of Race ?

2007/2008 E350 would win out against 2007 530i. Mercedes will usually beat a BMW in straight line acceleration, there are exceptions of course. The exception being the 2008 535i with the bi-turbo.

Why Should It ((Usually)) Win In Straight Acceleration!!
I Know That The Bmw Has Better Engine + Lot Better Smarter Gear Box Not Like The Dumb Gear Box In The MB's.

According to the official statistics from Mercedes and BMW:

2008 BMW 530i
hp 272/6700
Acceleration 0-62: 6.3 (6.5 in Auto)

Mercedes E350
hp 272/6000
Acceleration 0-62: 6.7 (6.9 in Auto)

I rest my case.

Its too bad the 2008 530i you quoted with 272 hp isn't available in the US.

Ok, well then why not quote the 255hp one? Remember also, the EU uses a different unit of measure when rating hp. This is the reason for the 255 vs. 258 difference. If the 272hp engine -were- to be brought to the US, it would be rated using our scale and would be several hp lower on paper - but identical in every other way.

530i - 255hp

0-60mph 6.4 (6.6 auto) seconds source, BMWUSA

E350 - 268hp

0-60mph 6.5 seconds source, MBUSA

So... you slushbox drivers might be 1/10th of a second behind... and we manual and SMG drivers would be 1/10th ahead. That's such a tight margin, it'd all come down to the driver and the reaction time.

Also - and I have said this a zillion times. These cars (E60s) are poor poor choices if you simply want to go fast or go around racing people. The 535i is rated to do 0-62 in 5.9 (6.0) seconds on the BMW Canada website. You can buy a V6 Camry that does a 5.8 0-60 and a 14.3 quarter... for $25K. If speed is you game, get something like that and then take the $35K you would have left over and buy a real fast toy.
