I suspect that's wishful thinking, my friend.
It is possible my friend... with the correct tuning...

I've never seen any remapped 535 run quite the best times that some of the 545 owners here report. Perhaps you can show us something different?

I don't think you need to worry about any 120d out running you anytime soon

The times are very rare for whatever reason. I found on dragtimes only 1 535d run in stock and it did the well known controverset 14.1 1/4 time. If i struggle probably i'll find the comparo between the 535d and the 545i when they tested the performance figures.
Also some mebers here get i dunno some quite optimistic data with alot of calculations and adjustments and so on that surpass my knowledge and my interest also. It my very well be true, i don't have the experience of running timed 1/4 or whatever. But i posted earlier on the race i had with the 645iA and the results, and the comfirmation of the guy about how things stack up. Bare in mind that my 535d is stock and no remaps...yet. Also i was suprised as i said of how well the diesel stacked up knowing that it was a 6 series and as i know those are a bit faster then their 5 series brothers (645i a lil faster then the 545i)

I'm just saying that it would be possible... with a brutal remapp of the engine... no doubt that it would not be good to the engine... but looking at the torque and standard performances of the 535d you don't have to be a professor to understand that this car can get very very fast with a remapp... I really hope you guys in california get to experience one of these monsters sometime in the future...

I hope so too, but it is increasingly looking like it might still be another couple of years before we do get to sample the diesels over here . There's certainly going to be a lot of demand when they do finally show up in the US

The 120d would not have done that to my 530d (231) - had a re-map last week to 271hp - 590Nm
I feel very fast 70 - 130 or more. Gotta slow down - doing 120 all the time
I should have some amount more power than 120d but I had to let him past me in the Ring. Of course in the corner, because he could not match straight line speed.

Weight my friends wiehgt!!

Agreed, a remapped 120d will walk all over a 530i from 50-75mph in 4th simple as that!

But why would you want to do it in 4th??

What about in 3rd?? I bet the gap would close then a little with the 3.0L petrol sitting nicely at what?? 4500rpm?

Don't get me wrong I am not slating the 120d, far from it, after borrowing one the other day I was hooked, in fact we borrowed the 120d on Sunday and I am hoping to swap my wifes Mini for a 120d on Monday if all goes well!!
Fantastic car, and makes more sense to swap her Mini for one than swap my car for a 335d or 335i, I then have a small nible car that will remap to 210bhp and still get 40+ mpg and I have the 535d for when we need a bigger car.

The 120d should not be written off though, I would expect a remapped one to beat the 530i nearly everytime when rolling.
