Sheesh.
I had to work my arse off for a year to save up ?400 to buy a beat to shit Hillman Avenger back in 1984.
Personally, I think a 530 is waaay too much car for an 18 year old. New drivers should be limited to something like a small 1 litre car for the first three years of driving on the roads with others just to learn how to treat other road users with respect. There's nothing worse than seeing young kids getting killed in powerful cars as they think they are Schumacher.
Anyway - I have three boys myself and they will most certainly not get bought fast powerful cars when they are old enough to drive. They will have to work to save money and will only be allowed old (but preferably safe) beaters as first cars. Certainly not 5 Series beemers!
I hate to be harsh, but it sounds like your parents have more money than sense. Mind you - if my folks had offered me a 530 when I truend 18, I would of course have jumped at the chance.
Just be careful - it's a lot of car for a teenager, no matter how good you think you are.

At risk of being controversial, a 5 series is an older person's car ! When you want the space, and refinement, rather than raw fun and excitement. Fast, yes, but quite heavy.
Young person's car if you lots of money (clearly the case here), but continent specific
* Lotus Elise
* Subaru Imprezza (prev model)
* Mini Cooper S Works
* BMW 135i convertible
* Golf GTi or R32
* Porsche Boxster (but mostly driven in UK by mid life crises)

i agree!!! but its not about the money, i want to get a nice car because i want to drive it for 10 years or more and not sell it to buy another every couple years. so i think its a good buy for me.
