It's nearly as light and has better gearing for acceleration than an E90 330i, which has performed as well as 5.6 seconds in some automotive press testing. My best guess is probably barely under 6 seconds if flogged.

I am new to speeding. What should a driver do to get the 530iA to deliver the best 0-60?

I was referring to the manual. I haven't really researched the gearing on the automatic, so I don't know if the same holds true. The weight may be slightly heavier too - again, I haven't checked.

You will want to completely disable any and all DSC/DTC. Make sure the transmission is in sport mode. Brake torque the car until you get just a hair of wheelspin, and then remove your foot from the brake and mash the accelerator pedal at the same time. You are looking to get just a little bit of wheelspin combined with mostly traction - this combination will result in the quickest off-the-line performance. It will feel like the car is skipping forward along a slick surface if done correctly. It may be necessary to depress the accelerator only partially to achieve this kind of launch - not having attempted it on the automatic, I can't say for sure.

I know of no independent tests that can be referenced for the 530i with the new N52 engine so I'm not sure anyone can give a good answer for that. BMW doesn't quote that in any markets do they?

Been reading about brake torquing and the conservative nature of BMW's 0-60 times a fair bit on the forum.

I'm starting to wonder if perhaps BMW don't brake torque when they set their official times (perhaps it's not allowed?) that would certainly explain the difference.

Znod's times suggest the step is as fast a manual which I couldn't understand before.

Does anyone know if brake torqueing is used in official tests?

It is generally used by magazine tests, but I don't think BMW has ever specified its methodology.

I think their equipment may have been updated since then, but it talks to the points of how they accelerate, etc...
